It feels like only yesterday when you came home from the hospital with your precious baby. Time flies so fast that 'suddenly' your baby is a toddler!
Toddlerhood is a stage where your child learns to walk properly, which is typically started at about 12 month up to 36 month. You will notice that this is the time when your child becomes much more active and strives to be independent. During this stage they will develop:
* Fine Motor Skills - Your Child's Hand-Eye Coordination Improves
--> Your child should begin to show more of a preference for either his left or right hand
--> Your child can grasp and twist door knobs, pull drawers open, and open cabinets
Suggested toys to help develop and optimize your child's motor skills:
- Drawing
- Working with large piece puzzles/big blocks
- Working with musical toys
* Cognitive Skills - Your Toddler's Thinking Skills Continue to Grow
--> Your child is developing language skills, and his ability to remember things are improving
--> Your child is beginning to understand color, size, shape, basic counting and matching
Suggested toys to help develop and optimize your child's cognitive skills:
- Stacking toys such as stacking rings
- Playing with shape sorters (rectangle, circle, star)
